Thought I should right a review of HG, since I have been a customer for a while.

In short: Hostgator rocks. Hands down the best shared host for the money. The servers are incredibly fast, uptime is near perfect, and my favorite part of Hostgator is the support. You can click Live Chat and have a straightforward answer/fix to your problem in a few minutes tops.

Before Hostgator, I used a host that wasn’t as dreamy as they claimed to be. HG rocks and I recommend them to everyone.

I joined HG 3 years ago, moving from a very bad hosting in the UK. Boy, HG rocks. Server uptime is very good, almost never had downtime. Support is very kind and competent and honest as well.

I have been with Hostgator now since 2005 and I cannot speak highly enough of their service, support and professionalism. Since starting my site back in 1999 I have tried around 4 or 5 different web hosts, and none of them have even come close to Hostgator in terms of features, price and my level of satisfaction.

I recommend Hostgator to all my clients, friends and colleagues. In fact, a very good friend of mine just bought a reseller package here after I gave HG such a glowing report.

The few times I have had any problems the support staff have been very quick to respond and extremely helpful, usually resolving the issue within minutes. Uptime has been unprecedented. I recently took over the management of two websites for a local comedy troupe that are served by a different hosting company (I won’t name them here), and in just the last two months the sites have been down for a total of around 24 hours! Compare that to HostGator where in the last four years I’ve probably experienced only about a couple of hours of downtime total for all the sites I’ve got running here – two hours spread across four years! I have made recommendations that I move this client over to HostGator asap!

As you can tell, I can’t say enough good things about HostGator. In an age where there is so much competition, there is one sure way to retain your customers and get new ones – keep them happy so they spread the word, and HostGator deliver on every front!

While I was with them, Hostgator wasn’t that bad, though I did have problems with them. Their hosting packages clearly oversell, and that makes me weary to how many people are on their host. Their uptime has been decent, but the support has not necessarily been as decent. They didn’t know if they could whitelist my forum which had mod_security errors, and oftentimes, I had to find a solution myself for my problems. They then held my files hostage when I couldn’t pay for their hosting even after telling them with notice, which meant I moved to a different host or paid the $10 late fee. I moved hosts.
